Effect of NiO-based Oxygen Carriers for Chemical-Looping Combustion |

It has been known that CO2 is a green house gas and that the release of CO2 from fossil fuel combustion may affect the climate of the earth. Thus CO2 separation with combustion process is needed. For combustion with CO2 capture, chemical-looping combustion(CLC) has the advantage that no nergy is lost for the separation of CO2. Oxygen carriers consist of metal oxide and binder and they are prepared by dissolution method. The oxidation-reduction cycle experiments of the oxygen carriers were performed in thermogravimetric reactor(TGR) to identify the reactivity and regenerability. Various kinds of oxygen carriers, NiO/ZrO2, NiO/YSZ, NiO/Al2O3 and NiO/AlPO4, were examined by TGR. Hydrogen fuel is reacted with metal oxide(reduction of metal oxide), and then the reduced metal ix successively oxidized by air. In oxygen carriers, NiO/YSZ and Al2O3 have good reduction and oxidation rates.
