Supercapacitors can be classified into two categories with respect to their energy storage mechanism. One is the electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC), the capacitance of which comes from the pure electrostatic charge accumulated at the electrode/electrolyte interface. These capacitors require electrode materials with high surface area and pores adapted to the size of the ions. The other category is the pseudocapacitor, in which fast and reversible faradic processes take place due to electro-active species. In this study, we prepared hierarchically porous carbon materials, onto which nanostructured polyaniline was introduced. The hybrid electrodes exhibited better electro-chemical performance due to a hybrid effect of both EDLC performance by the carbon material and pseudocapacitor performance by the nanostructured polyaniline. |
