Electrochemical performance of activated waste cokes for electrode material of electric double layer capacitor |

To evaluate the potential for the waste cokes as electrode materials of electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC), the waste cokes were activated using different quantity of potassium hydroxide (KOH). The electrochemical performances of the waste cokes electrodes were also investigated. The specific capacitance was increased from 0.00349 F/g for an untreated waste cokes to 276 F/g for activated with 300 wt% KOH at a scan rate of 5 mV/s. This improvement can be attributed to an increase of specific surface area from formation of amorphous carbon and higher electrical conductivity. The activated waste cokes showed an increase of capacitance retention as well as specific capacitance. Therefore, the waste cokes introduced pores showed potential as electrode materials for EDLC. |
