Beads activated carbon (BAC), a porous adsorbent, is one of the most economical and effective ways to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs). BAC was treated with hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, Styrofoam, and 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-Perfluorooctyltrichlorosilane by an immersion method to improve the VOC adsorption capacity in a humid condition. The purpose of this study is to improve the ability of VOC adsorption under a humid condition. The hydrophobic groups such as the surface oxygen group were removed by heat treatment. (500°C) SEM/EDAX, BET, and Porosimeter were used to identify the structural characteristics of BAC, and IR spectroscopy was used to identify surface functional groups. The adsorption performance of the modified BAC was confirmed by its adsorption capacity for formaldehyde and toluene under dry conditions and 80% relative humidity conditions. |
