Growth of CaCO3 Thin Films on Urease Multilayers Prepared by Layer-by-Layer Deposition |

Biomineralization has been the subject of active research due to its great potentials for the rational design of artificial crystalline materials and/or hybrid composites. In this presentation, CaCO3 thin films were prepared on the substrates by the catalyzed reaction of urease (Ur). (Ur/poly(diallydimethylammonium chloride)(PDAC))n multilayered films were assembled on substrates by the layer-by-layer deposition method with immobilized Ur used as a source of carbonate ions. As the urease decomposes urea in solution containing supersaturated calcium ions, CaCO3 thin films were grown from the (Ur/PDAC)n film. Also CaCO3 thin films were prepared with 2D patterns and on 3D complex structures taking advantage of the layer-by-layer deposition. |
