Average temperatures of West Sea of Korea from winter, spring, summer, and fall are roughly 2, 10, 25, and 15, respectively. Five different Tetraselmis strains, Tetraselmis sp. KCTC12429BP, KCTC12430BP, KCTC12431BP, KCTC12432BP, KCTC12433BP, isolated from Youngheung Island, Incheon, were cultivated at 3 different temperatures, ranging from 10°C to 30°C, in flasks. Biomass productivities of the tested Tetraselmis sp. strains were highest at 20°C., Among five Tetraselmis sp., fatty acid productivity of KCT12433BP showed about 30% higher than at 20°C. Further studies will be on cultivation of the microalgae in marine photobioreactors deployed in the ocean in different seasons to investigate if the result of marine experiment corresponds to the results of lab-scale experiment.
