PVDF has achieved wider applicability in diverse fields due to its higher piezoelectric activity attributed to the β-crystalline conformation. The β-crystalline phase in PVDF, however, must be increased to be used as piezoelectric sensors. The sulfonated groups in the sPPS can have ion-dipole interaction with PVDF, which may help in maintaining the dipole orientation in PVDF. In this study, the PVDF/sPPS electrospun nanowebs were prepared to investigate the changes in β-crystalline content, dipole orientation, and piezoelectricity. Cyclic voltammetry studies were carried out to confirm the redox behavior of sPPS and its influence on improving the piezoelectric behavior of PVDF based pressure sensors. The piezoelectricity of PVDF/sPPS nanoweb showed three times increase compared to that of PVDF based sensor, which is an evidence that the PVDF/sPPS nanoweb material can be used as a flexible pressure sensor.
