제목 Synthesis and characterization of sulfonated poly(aryl ether benzimidazole) copolymers as proton exchange membrane for fuel cells
초록 The proton conducting membrane is one of the most important materials in development fuel cell applications. Sulfonated perfluorocopolymers such as Nafion and Flemion have been used in practical systems due to their high proton conductivity and excellent chemical and mechanical stability. However, these membranes have some disadvantages in reduced conductivity at high temperature, and high methanol permeability and high price. Nonfluorinated polymer electrolyte membranes materials such as sulfonated aromatic hydrocarbon polymer membranes suitable for PEMFC or DMFC applications are under active develpement. Aromatic polybenzimidazole (PBI) have attracted much attention for their potential use in PEM because they have excellent thermal stability and mechanical durability [1]. And also PBI is a basic polymer which can readily be complexed by a strong acid, to give acid-doped PBI membranes [2-3]. In this work, we will present the synthesis of sulfonated poly(aryl ether benzimidazoles) (PAEBI) and the conductivity of PAEBI doped with H3PO4, HNO3, H2SO4 and HCl. The properties of doped PAEBI forfuel cell membranes will be also discussed.
