A shape memory polymer is a smart material that can recover its original shape after being deformed into a temporary shape when it is heated or receives any other stimuli. In this study, we synthesized shape memory polymer based on nylon 12-b-PEG multiblock copolymer. In the copolymer, nylon 12 hard segment act as a stationary phase stabilizing the permanent shape and PEG possessing a certain degree of crystallinity act as a reversible phase serving as switch, which allow shape fixing and thermally triggered shape recovery to be displayed in the polymer. It was revealed that switching temperature for the shape recovery occur and elastic modulus of the shape memory copolymer can be tailored by molecular weight of PEG and nylon 12/PEG ratio, which were characterized by DMA, DSC and tensile testing. |
