Poly-butylene-adiapte-co-terephthalate (PBAT) is a promisingaliphatic-aromatic polymer with biodegradability and high flexibility. However, the application of PBAT is still limited in film type due to intrinsic weakphysical property. Herein, we present mechanically reinforced PBATmicroparticles using silica-cellulose nanofiber necklaces (SiNL). SiNL ishydrophobic cellulose nanofiber with silica nanoparticles, which has both highrigidity and biodegradability. PBAT-SiNL mircroparticles are produced byemulsion evaporation, where amphiphilic cellulose nanofiber andpoly-vinyl-alcohol (PVA) were used as surfactants. PBAT-SiNL sphere particleswere observed with SEM and their mechanical and thermal properties wereenhanced compared to single composite. These results highlight that ourbiodegradable microparticles are expected to be microplastic alternatives withexcellent properties. |
