Polymeric binder had shown profound effect on lithium ion batteries (LIB), due to its interaction capability with electrolytes, mechanical properties and long term cycling stability. Numerous studies have shown that, development of functional binders, can inhibit the severe volume change of silicon anode. In view of this, our work aims to develop Poly (PAA – co - PVA) as an efficient LIB binder. We synthesized Poly (tert-butyl acrylate – co – vinyl acetate) with monomer ratio (Poly (tBA : VAc)) varying from 1:1 to 3:1. Further, these polymers were hydrolyzed to yield (PAA – co - PVA) and its performance was analyzed as a binder. We found that, (tBA : VAc) ratio 1.5 : 1 can exhibit high initial columbic efficiency about 88%. In can be noted that, the incorporation of PVA to PAA can minimize the glassy nature of PAA binder and thereby, it increases the cycle retention for silicon anode LIBs. |
