Fabrication of hybrid nanocomposite of highly dispersed SWNTs via self assembled polymeric materials |

We propose a novel method to disperse Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes (SWNTs) in organic solvents. The method is based on treatment of SWNTs with self assembled block copolymer micelles. The micelles of an amphiphilic block copolymer physically absorbed on the surface of SWNTs provide good stability of the SWNTs in either non-polar or polar solvent. The suspension of the SWNTs with a block copolymer in either solvent is stable without sedimentation for more than at least 2 months, and is much superior to one with a low molecular surfactant or a polymer. Furthermore we synthesize silver nanoparticles in the micelles and modify the surface of SWNTs by the subsequent heat treatment, which is potentially useful for metal/SWNT/polymer composites. |
