In this study, the integrated cell-based bio-actuator was fabricated using a 3D printer and subsequently filling the cell-matrix composed of live cells and biomaterials. Cardiac cells driven biological actuator does not show a reaction to stimuli and controlled movement, whereas skeletal muscle cell driven biological actuator is favorable to use. Also, geometric design was optimized for stress-induced 3D alignment of differentiated skeletal muscle cell. Next, electrical stimulation triggered contraction of engineered skeletal muscle cell and movement of the integrated cell-based actuator. Specifically, this cell-based bio-actuator system was able to be developed as an integrated cellular machine for a broad array of Bio-Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems by a modular assembly. |
