Silane coupling agents have unique properties such as low surface energy, high flexibility, transparency, hydrophobicity, and good thermal stability. In this study, polyurethane dispersion (PUD) was modified with 3-aminopropyl trimethoxysilane (APS) to improve some of their disadvantages (low mechanical properties, chemical resistance, and water resistance). The chemical reaction of polyurethane with APS was confirmed through FT-IR analysis. In addition, the changes of particle size and storage stability of PUD according to the APS content were evaluated. The silane-modified PUD film was prepared by a sol-gel process. As the content of APS increased, the chemical resistance and mechanical properties of the film improved, whereas the transparency of the film decreased. |
