Poly(oxyethylene) has been widely used as an intermediate of specialty and bulk chemical products. However, due to the chemical structure of oxyethylene repeat unit, the mechanical properties and chemical resistance are relatively weak. One of the manner to overcome the disadvantage of poly(oxyethylene) is make copolymer from poly(oxyethylene). As a preliminary study for the synthesis of poly(oxyethylene-co-ester)diol in carbon dioxide, we investigate the phase behavior of poly(oxyethylene) - diethylene glycol mixtures in carbon dioxide. Pressure-temperature (P-T) and pressure-composition (P-x) curves of poly(oxyethylene) - diethylene glycol – CO2 mixtures were measured by 2,000 bar and 433K. Especially, we focus to demonstrate the effect of molecular weight of poly(oxyethylene) on the solubility boundary of poly(oxyethylene) - diethylene glycol – CO2 ternary mixtures. |
