제목 | Development of Various Kinds of Fluorinated Polyimides for Lightwave Circuit Applications |
초록 | My talk will review the optical properties of newly developed fluorinated polyimides (FPIs) that exhibit outstanding optical transparency as well as excellent thermal, mechanical, and electric properties for the applications to optical components for lightwave circuits, in particular for telecommunication applications. The optical transparency of FPIs in the near-infrared (NIR) region has been improved by reducing the harmonic oscillations of infrared absorptions. In addition, newly developed methods for controlling the refractive indices, in-plane and in-plane/out-of-plane birefringence, and thermo-optic coefficients of FPIs will be demonstrated, and a variety of applications of FPIs to optical lightwave components, such as single- & multi-mode waveguide circuits, flexible substrates for WDM filters, half & quarter waveplates, and thin and flexible linear polarizers will be presented. In addition, it will be demonstrated that strong fluorescence with the three primary colors (red, green, and blue) can be emitted from specially developed semi-aromatic FPI films. Partially and perfluorinated polyimides are highly functional promising materials for the future telecommunication systems and flat display components. Scheme Conventional polyimides (a,b) and fluorinated polyimides (FPIs, c-h) specially developed for optical applications. |
