Highly Insulated Silicone/Carbon Nanotube Composites |

It has been generally accepted until now that the electrical conductivity of the composites is significantly raised as the CNT loading increases. Many efforts have been devoted to exploit the electrical properties of the polymer–CNT composites by controlling the orientation of CNT to allow the ultra-low electrical percolation threshold. However, sometimes high performance polymer-CNT composites are demanded with electrical insulating properties. For this purpose, the enhanced electrical conductivity as a result of the incorporation of CNT may be disadvantageous. A method to functionalize CNT sidewall with a SiO2 layer to provide a flexible way for the preparation of materials with controlled electrical conductivity as well as high mechanical properties was explored. |
