Polymer-based solar cells seem to be advantageous with respect to low cost fabrication, ease of manufacture, compatibility with flexible substrates, etc. However, some disadvantages, such low power conversion efficiency and low optical stability of donor polymer have to be overcome. We attempted to synthesize a thieno[3,4-b]thiophene-carbazole copolymer via Suzuki coupling reaction for photovolatic device application. It's thermal, optical, and electrochemical properties were investigated. Energy levels of the HOMO and LUMO of the polymer were also estimated from its UV-visible spectrum and cyclovoltamograms in solution. The polymer blends with PCBM were employed in fabrication of bulk-heterojunction photovoltaic devices. The experimental results will be presented in detail. |
