Formulation and in vitro Evaluation of Transdermal Patch of MCT |

MCT contains fatty acids with 8-12 carbons, and preliminary evidence suggests that MCTs are a useful fat substitute for those who have trouble digesting fat. MCTs are not only popular among athletes as a concentrated source of easily utilized energy but also have been used for weight loss. The present study was to prepare and evaluate transdermal patch of MCT containing penetration enhancers such as oleic acid and PEG. The effects of the permeation enhancers on skin permeation from the prepared patches were evaluated using Keshary-Chien diffusion cells with excised hairless mouse skins. The release profile of MCT from control showed no significant enhancing effect, while oleic acid and PEG resulted in a pronounced enhancing effect on the skin permeation of MCT. Further studies using in vivo would prove the usefulness of this patch. |
