Oligothiophene nanoparticles were prepared by emulsion polymerization and a redox initiator system. In this system, oligothiophene nanoparticles were polymerized with surfactant(sodium lauryl sulfate(SLS; HLB 40)), which were characterized by their conversion and photoluminescence spectra at 365nm. Also, a redox initiator system was performed with a major oxidizing reagent (hydrogen peroxide) and minor oxidizing reagents (sulfuric acid or FeCl3) which was relative high in pH among components of oxidizing reagents to make the oxidation more powerful. Analysis of the oligothiophene nanoparticles was done by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The prepared oligothiophene nanoparticles with sulfuric acid were ca.100 nm in size. Oligothiophene particles with FeCl3 were 400 nm submicron in size. The influences of polymerization parameters, variable pH, and acid type on photoluminescence of oligothiophene nanoparticles were systematically investigated. |
