Tunable Superhydrophobic and Optical Properties of Colloidal Films Coated with Block Copolymer Micelle/Micelle Multilayers |

BCM multilayers are formed onto silica colloidal particles taking advantage of the complementary interactions between polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinylpyrine) (PS-b-P4VP) and polystyrene-block-poly(acrylic acid) (PS-b-PAA). The adsorption of fluoroalkylsilane polymers onto these (PS49.5K-b-P4VP16.5K/PS16K-b-PAA4K)3-coated colloidal films yields the superhydrophobic properties with high water droplet contact angle above 170o and we demonstrate that their superhydrophobicity could be easily tuned by the surface morphology of the adsorbed BCM multilayers. Additionally, hydrophobic quantum dots and fluorescent dyes were incorporated into the hydrophobic PS core of the BCMs for the superhydrophobic films to reveal with optically tunable properties. The reported hierarchical approach offers new opportunities to prepare the smart superhydrophobic surfaces with controllable nanostructure and desired optical properties. |
