Study on the rheology and morphology of poly(acrylic acid) hydrogel |

The rheological and morphological properties of poly(acrylic acid) hydrogel were investigated and analyzed by rheometry and cryo-SEM. Variety of concentrations of Carbopol 941 (with 0.1 % to 4 % ) as selected poly(acrylic acid) polymer for 0 %, 1 % and 10 % TEA have been investigated to elucidate the rheological properties and interrelationship of microstructures of the hydrogels in relation to polymer as well as triethanolamine(TEA) concentration. Flow curves at static rheometry were analyzed by Hahn-Ree-Eyring model. Hydrogel at dynamic rheometry reveals viscoelastic properties. Cryo-SEM images show that honeycomb structures in the hydrogels were founded depending on the amount of TEA and Carbopol while the irregular fibrous three dimensional gel network structure were observed at the lower level of polymer content without TEA. |
