Hydrogels for wound dressing were made from a mixture of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), glycerin and sulfadiazine sodium salt by gamma-ray irradiation. The concentration of PVA/glycerin solution was 15 wt%, the PVA and glycerin ratio was 15:0~10:5. The concentration of sulfadiazine sodium salt was 0~2 wt%. The physical properties such as gelation, absorptivity of water or horse serum and gel strength were examined to evaluate the applicability of these for wound dressing. The hydrogels were evaluated their antibacterial activities. Antibacterial activities of hydrogels were examined by viable cell counting and clear zone method against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. |
