Desalination of Paper Wastewater by Hollow Fiber Nanofiltration Membrane |

To reduce the main obstacle to the valorization of paper wastewater, i.e. the development of separation technologies for actual paper wastewater, the ceramic membrane nanofiltration process using dense ultra-thin γ-Al2O3 membranes covered with porous α-Al2O3 hollow fiber (γ/α-HF) membrane for the separation of alkali metals (Na+, K+, etc.) from paper wastewater such as black liquor. The concentration of lignin in paper waste streams as an advanced wastewater treatment process has been successfully studied. In this experiment, γ-AlOOH sols were prepared by the sol-gel method and coated on α-Al2O3 hollow fiber (α-HF) supports by dip-coating. After calcination at 1300℃, the average pore sizes of the α-HF scaffold and the γ/α-HF membrane were found to be 0.2 μm and 1.6 nm.
