Many studies on alternative energy have been widely conducted as a solution to global warming. Hydrogen energy obtained by a proton exchange water electrolyzer (PEMWE) has been considered as a promising candidate. For a cathode of PEMWE, Pt is known to be the best catalyst. However, its high price and scarcity hinder commercialization in industrial scale. In this work, highly roughened NiyCo1-yOx catalysts electrodeposited on the gas diffusion layer (GDL). Then, S ion exchange was conducted to increase catalytic performance. Another strategy is to use metallic support. Then various transition metal-based catalysts were electrodeposited. The prepared cathodes were employed in PEMWE and cell performances were analyzed by overpotential subdivision using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). |
