Pickering emulsion is emulsions of any type, typically oil-in-water (o/w) and water-in-oil (w/o), stabilized by solid particles such as silica, nano-clay, graphene oxide colloids etc. They adsorb onto oil-water interface in place of classical surfactants. Solid particles do not need being amphiphilic unlike surfactant, however, need partial wettability by water and oil for high resistance to coalescence. Quite a number of particles have no partial wetting property themselves, therefore require modifying their surface and adjusting pH of dispersion medium. In this study, polyimide particles synthesized are first utilized as Pickering emulsion stabilizer. They do not need surface modification and pH control and can form both o/w and w/o emulsions. Microencapsulation could be successfully conducted through the Pickering emulsion. |
