Most self-healing evaluating systems have been reported at room temperature and reports on low temperature self-healing evaluating system are very rare. We have developed at -20~0℃ self-healing protective coating using a silanol-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (STP) and dibutyltin dilaulate (DD). STP undergoes condensation reaction in the presence of DD to give a viscoelastic substance at -20℃. STP- and DD-containing microcapsules are prepared by in-situ and interfacial polymerization method, respectively. The prepared microcapsules are characterized by optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The microcapsules were blended into commercial enamel paint, which were applied on substrate to obtain self-healing coatings. The self-healing coatings were stored and scratched at –20℃. When the self-healing coating is scribed, STP and DD are released from ruptured microcapsules and fill the scribed region. It was also demonstrated by release test and etc. at -20℃. |
