The design of smart AAO membranes for the nanoreactor |

The control of release system is highly needed for sophisticated drug delivery. Introducing the stimuli-responsive polymer to the release system can be for better controlled release. Here we propose the dual stimuli-responsive controlled-release system by the AAO (anodized aluminum oxide) membranes with layered surface functionalities inside the pore. Surface modification technique using stimuli-responsive polymers is carried out on the pore surfaces of the AAO, then the interior of the pore is chemically modified in layers. Upper and lower pores with different stimuli-responsive functionalities act as two gates which respond to the different stimuli. The wall of the AAO is decorated with Thermo-responsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) and pH-responsive poly(acrylic acid) through ATRP. This system is expected to have superior storage capacity and timely release of the drugs due to the environmentally responsive properties. |
