The influence of nitrogen deficiency as a stress condition on cell growth and physiological response was investigated in microalgae, Tetraselmis species. Two strains, MBEyh01L and MBEyh04Gc, were investigated. Cells were grown under continuous illumination by fluorescent lamps at 100 µE·m-2·s-1 in modified f/2 medium, with aeration with 2% CO2 (balanced with air) in bubble column at 20℃. The nitrogen deficiency had an impact on contents of fatty acids as well as carbohydrates. Under nitrogen-deficient conditions, fatty acid contents of MBEyh01L (17% w/w fatty acids/DCW) was 1.2 times higher than that of MBEyh04Gc (13% w/w fatty acids/DCW). On the contrary to this, carbohydrate contents of MBE04Gc (26.5% w/w carbohydrates/DCW) was 1.4 times higher than that of MBEyh01L (19.0% w/w carbohydrates/DCW). This results will help to understand the control of cellular metabolism under nutrient deficiency and the interaction of related metabolisms in microalgae. |
