Biocompatibility Evaluation of Three Dimensional CMC scaffold for Rat Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem cell |

Various naturally and synthetic derived biomaterials have been successfully used for three dimensional scaffolds. Sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) can be widely used for a scaffold. CMC has carboxylic acid as a polyanion group. The anions of the CMC may act as a point of electrostatic interactions with cations. A polycation, poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI) is one of the most extensively used biomaterials. We prepared CMC gel via electrostatic interactions of an amine group in PEI and a carboxylic acid group in CMC. And we performed seeding of rat BMSCs (rBMSCs) in CMC gel scaffold and examined host tissue responses to the CMC gel scaffold by immunohistochemical staining. As a results, injection of CMC gel alone induced macrophage accumulation in the host tissue, whereas injection of CMC gel containing rBMSCs was associated with less macrophage accumulation. Thus, rBMSC containing CMC gel scaffolds show good biocompatibility and guarantee adequate engraftment within the host tissue. |
