In the automotive industry, epoxy resin frequently was used to manufacture structural adhesive for assembling car bodies. The mixing and formulation condition between epoxy resin and curing agent can improve the crosslink density and bonding properties. However, the high crosslink density of fully cured epoxy system bring about the high brittleness that results in the limitation of improving performance of the structure adhesive. Therefore, the improvement of the impact and the toughness resistance of the cured epoxy composite have consistently been studied. The rubber-incorporated epoxy system is one of the most common methods to improve the toughness. In this study, butadiene-based core/shell rubber and liquid rubber were respectively incorporated in the bisphenol A-based epoxy resin in order to improve the mechanical properties of the epoxy resin thermally cured with dicyandiamide as a latent curing agent. The properties of the cured rubber-incorporated epoxy system were investigated. |
