In this work, heterojunction copper oxide and copper iron oxide (CuO/CuFeO2; CFO) films were synthesized on transparent conducting substrates with metallic Ti and Ni layers, repesctively. The main roles of the metal underlayer were to create a robust contact between the CFO layer and the substrates, which favors to the hole transfer. The CFO modified with metal underlayer for photoelectrochemical CO2 conversion was optimized by controlling the selection of metal species and thickness of the metal underlayer via electron-beam evaporation technic. The Ti/CFO samples convert CO2 into formate with high selectivity and the Ni/CFO samples convert CO2 into multi-products such as formate, acetate, citrate and maleate under simulated sunlight in the various lectrical bias.
