Ionic liquids (ILs) are unique new solvent materials in the chemical because of their unique properties such as negligible vapour pressure, tenability, stability, and wide liquidus range. Due to these special properties, ionic liquids have found a wide range of application in the fields of petrochemical, fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals biotechnology, and environmental remediation. Recently, it has been also known that ionic liquids can act as both electro-catalysts reducing activation energy of the electrochemical reduction of CO2. n this study, we have investigated the effect of anion/cation when use ionic liquid as electrolyte for electrochemical reduction of CO2. A H-type cell was used with various ionic liquid as electrolyte, Ag foil as working electrode, Ag/Ag+ as the reference electrode, a platinum coil as the counter electrode, and a piece of Asaigalss AMV membrane. Before electrochemical reduction, electrolyte of the H-type cell were bubbled with CO2 at atmosphere during 30 min. The result showed that ILs can be used as electrolyte, liquid medium, and electrocatalyst for the electrochemical reduction of CO2. |
