Metal ion containing polymer materials have attained great attention in recent years, because these hybrid species have great potential in many application fields such as electronics, catalysis and bio-mimicking sciences. On the other hand, there has been limited information in terms of material diversity, because most of metal-ion containing polymers have been depended on porphyrin or ferrocene based metal source, which is relatively less accessible for general industry. In this study, novel type of metal ion containing monomers and corresponding polymers (or copolymers) are prepared using 1,5-cyclooctadiene (COD) ligand. Ag methacrylate was initially prepared by AgNO3 and sodium methacrylate in water, and a silver methacrylate complex (Ag [CH2=C(CH3)COO-](COD)) was obtained by addition of COD ligand on the solution. The silver methacrylate complex has been co-polymerized with MMA through a radical polymerization using AIBN. This method can provide simple and novel way to prepare diverse metal ion containing polymers. |
