UV-curable isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) based urethane acrylate prepolymers were prepared from IPDI, poly(tetramethylene adipate glycol) (PTAd), hexane diol (HD), and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) with dibutyl tin dilaurate as a catalyst. UV-curable coating materials were formulated from the prepolymer, three different diuents [Butyl acrylate (BA), Isobonyl acrylate (IBOA), Methylmethacrylate (MMA)], 1-hydroxy cyclohexyl phenyl keton (Irgacure 184) as a photoinitiator and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as a thermal initiator. This study focused on the effect of diluent contents (30, 40, 50 wt%) on the surface/thermal/mechanical properties of coating materials to find the optimal diluent content.
