Effect of shear on electrically activated poly lactic acid nanocomposites |

Nanocomposites are known to acquire their advantageous physical properties when good dispersion of clays in the polymer matrix is achieved. Apart from chemical approach, a physical and practical method was used in this study activating electrical field on nanocomposites. We applied electric field during time sweep test in rheometer with modified fixture and investigated the nanocomposites` properties. Electrical effect on PLA nanocomposites under small amplitude oscillatory shear(SAOS) revealed as exfoliating clay platelets in matrices. The exfoliating effect was also dependent on the intensity of electric field and we specifically analyzed it by varying voltage of electrical field. However under large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS), the exfoliating effect was degraded and we investigated its property specifically with rheometer. |
