Electro-optic Response in Polymer Stabilized Cholesteric Liquid Crystals |

Cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) is a one-dimensional photonic crystal and has a helical structure showing selective reflection. CLC is promising for various applications, such as displays, smart windows, and optical components. Polymer stabilized CLCs (PSCLCs) are prepared via in-situ photopolymerization of LC mixture and show dynamic responses to external stimuli. In this talk, we will present the dynamic optical properties of PSCLCs by applying a direct current (DC) field, including bandwidth broadening, switchable scattering, red tuning and blue tuning. A potential mechanism for the dynamic response of PSCLC is related to the deformation of the ion-mediated polymer network and its current understanding will be discussed. |
