Many studies report that mechanical stiffness of an extracellular matrix modulates various phenotypic activities of cells in native tissue. This study examined the effects of matrix stiffness on the morphology, growth rates, and tubule formation of endothelial cells cultured in collagen and fibrin gel with controlled elastic moduli. Further, cell-adherent Janus microgel was fabricated to recapitulate the revascularization in cellular microenvironments using in vitro sprouting and in vivo angiogenesis assays. |
