Weak Polyelectrolyte Mutilayer Films for Nanoparticle Synthesis and Host-Guest Complexation |

Polyelectrolyte multilayers that are especially comprised of weak polyelectrolytes have received a great interest in results of their various functionalities found in optical and biological application. Since weak polyelectrolytes can have different charge density based on their pH environment, the obtained films may possess very distinctive characteristics depending on the deposition process. We have studied polyelectrolyte multilayer thin films(PEMs) made with various weak polyelectrolytes, hydrogen bonded or ionic bonded systems, and examined their morphological change including porous transition upon different pH stimuli. These morphologically changed films were used to study surface interactions with biological molecules. We also studied nanoparticle synthesis using these polymer thin films as templates. Complexation reaction in PEM films will be also included in this paper. |
