Nickel oxide (NiO) is a p-type semiconductor with wide band gap ~ 3.6eV, high ionization potential, and low electronic affinity in comparison with several other metal oxides (e.g. WOx, MoOx,VOx ). Because of this unique characteristic, NiO has been used in various applications such as gas sensors, catalysts, battery electrodes, and electrochromic devices. Here, we present size and shape controlled synthesis of highly uniform colloidal NiO nanocrystals. Colloidal NiO nanocrystals, which is well-dispersed in non-polar solvent, are synthesized by high temperature thermal decomposition methods. By changing the reaction parameters, size and shape of colloidal NiO nanocrystals is precisely tuned. We characterize electrochemical properties of solution-processed thin-film fabricated from colloidal NiO nanocrystals and investigate their size and shape dependence on the electrochemical properties. |
