Nonlinear optical (NLO) polymers are of great interest because of their vast applications in optoelectronic technology. Stabilization of electrically-induced dipole alignment is one of important criteria in the developments of NLO polymers. Polyimides for NLO applications have attracted attentions because of their high thermal stability. In this work we prepared novel polyimides containing 4-(2,2-dicyanovinyl)-6-acetylresorcinoxy groups as NLO-chromophores. We selected the latter because they have large dipole moment. Furthermore, these groups constitute novel X-type NLO polyimides, and these X-type NLO polyimides have not yet been presented in the literature. These mid-type NLO polymers are expected to have both the merits of main-chain and side chain-NLO polymers, namely stabilization of dipole alignment and good solubility. After confirming the structure of the resulting polymers, we investigated their properties. |
