Green composites with natural fibers have been used in many industrial applications as composite materials. It is also considered that some natural fibers can replace the reinforcement of glass fiber-reinforced plastics because of numerous advantages over glass fibers. However, applications of green composites have been limited because of poor thermal stability from deterioration of natural fiber after processing. To overcome such the shortcomings of green composites with polyamide 6(PA6) and kenaf fiber(KF), polyacrylonitrile(PAN) and oxidized-PAN coated KF are used instead of bare KF. Usually, PAN can be used for thermal and flame retardant after oxidation. PA6 is one of the engineering plastics and often used as matrix in composites. Consequently, the aim of this work is to fabricate oxidized-PAN coated KF/PA6 composites, via extrusion and injection processes, and to explore the effect of PAN and oxidized-PAN coating to KF on the thermal and mechanical properties of the composites. |
