Self-assembly of block copolymers (BCPs) have gained a lot of interest, since these polymers can provide huge potentials for use as scaffolds, membranes and templates for the fabrication of well-ordered structures with sizes in the nanometer range. In this work, the composite membranes with BCP thin films that had aligned cylindrical morphology were fabricated and investigated for water purification. Various BCPs were used in this work, and inner surface or pore walls of nanoporous block copolymers on the membrane was, if required, functionalized by the post-modification after membrane preparation. The practical values of these composite membranes are evaluated by measuring the pure water fluxes and selective separation, and the effects of surface properties of inner pores in the BCP membrane were investigated. These results are expected to be able to offer a design rule of BCP membranes by tuning their physical and chemical properties. |
