Ag nanoparticles decorated SiO2/TiO2 hollow nanoparticles (Ag@HNPs) were fabricated to increase the light absorption and light scattering in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In particular, Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) exhibited localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effects which is influenced by the size of the Ag NPs. Ag NPs and SiO2/TiO2 hollow nanoparticles enables the working electrode to use the full solar spectrum by LSPR effects at short wavelengths and scattering effects at long wavelengths. Therefore, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of Ag@HNPs based DSSCs improved by 27%, from 7.1% to 9.0 %, compared to only TiO2 based DSSCs. The novelty of this research will suggest new guidance to nanomaterial design in the area of solar cell. |
