Sulfur mustard (HD) is a cytotoxic and vesicant chemical warfare agent with the ability to form large blister on the exposed skin and the lungs. HD degrading methods have been developed and used, but most of the them still use toxic chemicals or produce toxic decomposition products. In the case of hydrolytic degradation of HD, the reaction products are not toxic, but it has a disadvantage that the reaction rate is too slow. We conducted a series of HD degrading experiments on various nano particles including UiO-66-X (X = Br, NO2, NH2, OH) series Metal-Organic Frameworks in alcholic aqueous solution at room temperature. With the decomposition reaction rates and DRIFT-IR study of HD on MOFs, we are going to discuss about the enhancement of the hydrolysis rate by nucleophilic functional groups in MOFs. |
