Preparation and characterization of chitosan/PVAhydrogel beads for Cu(Ⅱ) removal |

The chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogel beads were prepared by w/o emulsion in order to remove the heavy metals in the aqueous pollutant. Chitosan was used as adsorbents. PVA was blended to improve the mechanical and chemical properties of chitosan. The morphology was investigated by SEM. The morphology of hydrogel beads showed the denser structure resulting from the addition of PVA. The copper ion removal was investigated with ICP AES. PVA improved the copper ion removal efficiency by increasing the contacting area between the swollen PVA networks and the aqueous pollutant. The adsorption capacity of chitosan/PVA hydrogel beads was improved significantly by increasing the content of PVA. |
