A reliable fabrication of defect-free zeolite membranes is critical for realizing energy-saving in separation processes as alternative to cost-intensive counterparts (distillation, crystallization, etc.). In this study, I will present a rational approach, aiming at the synthesis of less-defective 8-MR zeolite membranes, which are desirable for CO2 separations. The hydrothermal growth of a uniformly formed seed layer allowed for the synthesis of continuous zeolite membranes. The CO2 perm-selectivities of the resulting zeolites membranes will be discussed, especially considering the effect of water vapor. Finally, one way to deal with non-zeolitic parts, known as defects, in zeolite membranes will be addressed. |
