Biowaste-derived microfibrilated cellulose is an ultra-lightweight, eco-friendly and renewable material. Benefiting from its fibrous network with high aspect-ratio, a three-dimensional sponge-like monolith can be self-assembled by a simple vacuum-filtration. In addition, two-dimensional graphene and/or one-dimensional carbon nanotubes can be introduced to improve the mechanical strength as well as multi-functional activity, leading to the direct application to wearable electronic devices. The cellulose fiber-based aerogel exhibits highly efficient tri-functional activity in 1 M KOH electrolyte. More importantly, carbon aerogels are directly applied as the monolithic electrodes for alkaline water electrolyzer and compressible solid-state zinc-air batteries. |
