Although aromatic polyimides exhibit excellent thermal, mechanical, electrical, and chemical properties, they have poor processability including limited solubility in organic solvents which is caused by rigid polymer backbone and strong interchain interaction. In addition, the polyimides have strong absorption in UV and visible region, which is mainly due to the formation of intermolecular charge-transfer complex (CTC). To overcome the drawbacks, polyimide structure modifications have been made extensively. The incorporation of aliphatic moiety into the polyimide backbone is one of the efficient methods to achieve increased solubility, enhanced transparency and decreased dielectric constant. In order to develop fully or partially aliphatic polyimides with enhanced properties, the structure-property relationship of the polyimides has been extensively studied. However there have been only a few reports on the effect of stereochemistry of aliphatic diamine on polyimide properties. |
