Photo sensitive cubic phases containing azobenzene were prepared. Monolein/azobenzene mass ratio was 1:0, 1:0.0025, 1:0.005, and 1:0.025. In order to observe the effect of photo irradiation on the release of water soluble and oil soluble compound, methylene blue and Nile red was loaded to cubic phases. MO cubic phase structure was observed using TEM. Since MO cubic phase was optically isotropic, it didn’t exhinit birefringence under polarized light. But when it was heated, it showed birefringence due to the phase transition. The phase transition temperature of cubic phase decreased with increasing the content of azobenzene. The reason might be that azobenzene was intercalated into MO bilayer thus it would deteriorate the bilayer crystalline structure and decrease the phase transition temperature. Since the phase transition temperature is closely related to the fluidity of MO bilayer, it can have an effect on the release of methylene blue and Nile red. |
